Winston Sammut is an Investment Specialist with more than 40 years’ experience in investment markets and the investment management industry, having previously worked for companies including Commonwealth Bank, Ausbil, Folkstone Charter Hall and Sequoia. With a background across domestic as well as international equity and bond markets, before specialising in the Australian Listed Real Estate markets having managed a top-ranking real estate property product for 17 years.

Starting his career as an equities dealer, progressing to equities analyst at Commonwealth Bank Financial Services and eventually appointed Senior Investment Officer, responsible for managing a $1.5bn domestic equities portfolio. Moving to BZW Investment Management  (BZWIM) in 1992 as Domestic Equities Manager and subsequently appointed Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Winston was responsible for managing BZWIM’s asset allocation, international equities, and derivative strategies for the group and left in 1992 becoming a founding member/director of Ausbil Dexia where he was appointed Deputy Chief Investment Officer, having responsibility for Ausbil’s listed property exposures before starting out in 2002 on his own, establishing Maxim Asset Management, launching the Maxim Property Securities Fund, open to retail investors, in 2005. Maxim was sold to ASX listed Folkestone Ltd (FLK) in 2014 and which was subsequently acquired by the Charter Hall Group (CHC) in 2018 at which time the fund’s name was changed to the Charter Hall Maxim A-REIT Securities Fund. Winston was the fund’s investment manager Over the 17-year period since inception to September 2022 over which time the Fund was conferred numerous awards as a consequence of generating consistent peer leading returns.

Over the years, Winston has appeared on Bloomberg TV, Sky Business and the ABC’s business program offering his views on property markets as well as featuring in numerous publications commenting on property and investment markets in general.

Winston is a Graduate of Business Studies (Banking) at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
